Abraham Lincoln: A Living Portrait

September 16, 2025 @ 8:50 pm

Does Abraham Lincoln still matter?  The play, Carl Sandburg’s Abraham Lincoln: A Living Portrait, reveals Lincoln through the words of Carl Sandburg. It’s an Evening of stories in Sandburg’s cozy writing den and in the audience of his famous national speaking tours. Pulitzer Prize winner Sandburg takes the stage to animate Lincoln off page just as if you passed Lincoln on the street and saw his gangly gangly frame, unshaped clothes, and signature hat in vivid detail. Sandburg’s resonant writing puts you there in the picture with Lincoln and brings him close enough to touch. Sandburg’s Lincoln shows us the traits we expect to see in today’s leaders.  “Carl Sandburg’s Lincoln was an amazing program… Duchrow’s evocative portrayal captivated the audience the entire evening, crying one moment, and laughing out loud the next.” Michael Patilla – Dean, Carl Sandburg College
